It's an exciting time for Mustang fans! Ford recently revealed the 7th generation Pony car, and there are three big news: It keeps the gas engine and doesn't go electric. It also keeps the manual transmission alive with a standard 6-speed gearbox. And finally. It will also introduce a new Dark Horse-badged Performance line – the first new performance line of Mustangs in 21 years and the first new Performance name since the Bullitt was introduced in 2001.

The new Mustang will be available as either a convertible or a coupe, with a four-cylinder V8 or turbocharged engine and manual or automatic transmissions. Oh, and if you like the sound of the engine revving, Mustang introduces Remote Rev, which gives you the ability to rev the car's engine remotely using your key fob.

Mustang Dark Horse

Ford says engineers worked for three years to create the Dark Horse Mustang. With the available Handling Package, it's the most capable 500-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 Mustang ever.

The car borrowed many design decisions from the Mustang Shelby GT350 and Mustang Shelby GT550, including an improved 6-speed manual transmission, new piston connections in the engine, and improved brake, engine and rear axle cooling.

"We're taking advantage of every pixel," said Craig Sandvig, Ford Mustang interaction design manager. "We can be creative in showing necessary driving information and give the driver control of selecting colors, classic Mustang gauges or even a 'calm' screen where only minimal details are displayed."

Technology

The Mustang GT is now powered by an advanced 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine. The fourth-generation 5.0-liter engine is set to deliver the most naturally aspirated performance of any GT Mustang thanks to an innovative dual air intake box and dual-throttle body design. Ford says it helps minimize induction losses by allowing more airflow."This is the most athletic and confidence-inspiring Mustang EcoBoost and GT yet," said Ed Krenz, Ford Mustang chief engineer. "Whether you're driving an automatic or manual transmission, with drive modes combined with finely tuned digital engine control, suspension and steering, we're now able to give drivers top performance anywhere, from their favorite roads to their local circuits. And yes, as we mentioned above, Ford is saving the manual transmission for the new generation. The 5.0-liter V8 engine continues to offer a standard six-speed manual transmission for customers with an advanced 10-speed automatic transmission. If you're looking for a fun drive with fuel-saving benefits, you can opt for the EcoBoost model powered by an all-new four-cylinder turbocharged 2.3-liter powertrain.Drivers will be able to adjust the steering, engine response and other systems with 6 available driving modes: Normal, Sport, Slippery, Drag, Track plus customizable settings with up to six individual profiles tailored to the driver's view ahead.Mustang GT and EcoBoost models are available with the optional Performance Pack, which adds a host of track-focused features, including a front Tower Brace, Torsen® Limited Slip differential and optional MagneRide active suspension, wider rear wheels and tires, and larger, Brembo 390 front brakes millimeters and at the back 355 millimeters. The GT Performance Pack adds brake ducts for even better cooling and a standard aftermarket engine oil cooler. The Performance Pack also offers optional Recaro® seats and an active exhaust.

Mustang GTs with manual transmissions include standard rev matching to help maintain engine revs when the clutch is depressed. This preserves peak torque between manual shifts and delivers even greater precision, excitement and improved refinement.
